How we work

Hakon Invest’s influence in the portfolio companies is based both on significant holdings and a strong position of trust. We make active contributions to the companies’ development processes throughout the investment period.

For Hakon Invest active and responsible ownership means creating and nurturing long-term values in the portfolio companies. Ownership is exercised in cooperation with other owners and primarily conducted through work on the board but also takes the form of providing expert support for operational activities.

Clear holding and business plans

Normally at lest one representative from Hakon Invest sits on the board of the company and we normally seek the role of chairman. Our work is based on a clear holding plan which identifies value-creating strategies, return targets, resource requirements and exit alternatives. We also make sure that the company works in accordance with a well-thought out business plan which turns the key strategic objectives into reality.

Examples of components in business plans

  • Strategy and business development
  • Corporate culture
  • Financial matters
  • Financial and operational targets
  • Corporate governance and management issues
  • Reporting and control systems

Continuous follow-up

The business and action plans of the holdings are continuously followed up and updated. Hakon Invest has structured working methods consisting of ongoing fundamental analysis of the holding, its market and competitors. Information is obtained among other ways by company visits, regular dialog with management and Hakon Invest’s own business environment analysis. Our investment organization continuously informs the board member or members that represent Hakon Invest on the holdings’ boards so that they always have an up-to-date picture of the opportunities and challenges of the business.

Hakon Invest also functions as a sounding board for the managements of the holdings, for example with regard to strategic issues, acquisition, divestments and financing.
